I had the pleasure of documenting Kelly and Kortney’s beautiful, pink-themed wedding and reception at The Landmark. Here is the story of Kelly and Kortney in their own words. Enjoy!
Kortney and I went to the same high school, but never knew each other, as he was a senior when I was a sophomore. We had several mutual friends who he kept in touch with when they went away to college and after they graduated. I lost touch with all of those people from high school, but my roomate after college actually ended up working with one of them, Laura. One day in December 2008 there was a joint birthday party for Kortney and Laura. My roomate was invited to the party and said I should come along because Laura would love to catch up. So I went to the party, just planning to catch up with some old high school friends, and Kortney started talking to me. He used a technique called the “three prong approach” to hook me in, then we danced all night and went on a date the next week. We knew almost immediately that we’d both found “the one” but were both too chicken to say it, so we started saying “elephant shoe” to each other because when it’s mouthed it looks like you’re saying “I love you”. A month after we met, Kortney invited me on a lake trip with all his friends. On that lake trip, we talked about “our future wedding” and how awesome it would be to have elephant ears at our wedding because of the whole elephant shoe thing. So the next month we said “I love you” and went ring shopping, and 5 months after our first date Kortney proposed to me on the beach at Emerald Isle in between sand sculptures of an elephant and a shoe. So as you can see, the elephant thing has been going on since the beginning, and we thought it only appropriate to include it in our wedding!
