I can remember after my first year of shooting with a 35mm film camera, my professor said to me, so Hilton, are you ready to start shooting digital photography? I thought that was a crazy question, but it’s been five years since the transition, and I’ve got to tell you, I can’t put it down.
Since shooting with a variety of digital cameras, all of which have been Canon, I fell in love with and highly recommend the 5d Mark ii. I am a big fan of its full frame sensor which enables the image quality to be outstanding and allows me to push the envelope with high iso levels. The colors produced by this camera body are more life like than any other digital I have shot with.
There are two lenses I love to use when documenting a wedding, the 35mm 1.4 and the 85mm 1.2. The 35mm is a very fast lens that allows me to shoot in low light situations during a wedding. I am not a fan of flash, and that’s why I love these prime lenses so much. The 85 1.2 is in a league of its own! It has to be the sharpest lens I have ever used. I shot with the 85 1.8 for the longest time and have to say it doesn’t even compare. The 85’s quite an investment, but I guess the famous saying rings true, “you get what you pay for”!
