It is important to understand,
when evaluating medical discount plans, that these plans are not the same thing
as medical insurance. These discount plans instead provide access through
membership to discounted services from select participating providers. In years
past, many companies with such plans carefully chose their marketing messages
to closely resemble features and benefits of major medical plans. However, with
increased regulations regarding fair marketing practices, these companies have
had to come clean and present their programs in a more honest light. As a
result, many companies have expanded their networks and service offerings to
provide an attractive alternative to expensive health insurance.
Today’s medical discount plans
offer more than just cheaper rates with participating doctors and pharmacies.
These plans not only offer those discounts, but access to hospitals, labs, and
diagnostic testing centers at the same reduced rates insurance companies pay
for the same services. Additionally, many of these plans have expanded to
include such services as accidental death insurance, accident protection
insurance, counseling, and alternative medicines. Each plan is required to meet
the strict guidelines set down by each state in terms of what coverage is
allowed and how these companies can bill their services.

There is growing consensus that
the World needs a paradigm change in the way we care for personal and public
Health. Not only are the utterly Pharma-centric Health-care systems
dysfunctional in that the population is getting sicker not healthier, also the
systems are bankrupting whole economies. Hereafter the consent dissolves and
infinite debates go on how to approach change. This is the First in a series of
Articles focusing on conditions that must set the stage for effecting change:
explicit understanding of what is meant when we talk Health. Then Individuals
can discover how they can effectively predict their Health and prevent Illness.
There are many Words in the
English Language that we often use but never peruse, in the belief that their
meaning in generally understood without ambiguity; such words are, for example:
Birth, Married, Children, Parent, Dead, and so on. But and infinite majority of
the words we use have meaning which is dependent on the context, and that means
these words are interpreted by the listener according to their situation. Just
consider words like Water, Pain, Fire, Taxes, Work, or Freedom. Now, the quote
by the famous German Philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein starts making sense;

economical impact the use and definition of a Word can have.

Voter registration ended earlier
this month, on Tuesday October 9th, here in Florida and in several other swing
states. Those of us working hard to elect leaders who understand and care about
public health issues, leaders like President Obama and Florida’s Senator Bill
Nelson, temporarily put down our clipboards, taking a tiny rest before gearing
up to go get out the vote. We need a government that stands up for public
health, not one dead set on tearing down longstanding, hard-won protections for
people and the environment.
But lots of us devote so much
mental energy to this election that it actually starts to sap our energy. It’s
hard to stop stewing over the polls at night when a person, and it’s not just
me but lots of us, has the bad habit of checking our favorite political
tracking blogs right before turning in.
Anyway, October 9th was the last
day in the long chapter in which we have been striving to register thousands
upon thousands of new voters. Trained in newly passed and unnecessary state
regulations, black pens and clipboards at the ready, we hardcore Obama
supporters registered voters in apartment complexes, the aisles of big box
stores, hair salons, parks and parking lots. Some of us stayed up late into the
night at big events full of likely Obama supporters, gay-pride dances and
festival celebrating Hispanic culture.
We worked round the clock,
looking for ordinary Americans, hoping that they will vote in the best
interests of themselves and their families; hoping that they will vote for
better solutions to our major public health issues, and better health for all;
hoping that they will vote Democratic.
Our work to register voters in
the ranks of the lower- and middle-classes proved a real struggle against
powerful, coordinated forces trying to …
