Integrative medicine was first introduced in 1993 by Dr Richard T. Lipton at Mount Sinai School Of Medicine in New York City. He saw that many patients were going to their doctor with pain or illness but did not feel like they were getting better after being prescribed medications or surgery to fix their problem; so he started looking into different types of treatments such as acupuncture and chiropractic care which could be used alongside traditional Western medicine without interfering with any drugs they may be taking at the time (Lipton).
